MISSION, TX (KVEO NEWSCENTER 23) — Congressman Henry Cuellar is in the Rio Grande Valley, and Monday morning he paid a visit to the Mission Chamber of Commerce.
Cuellar appeared with fellow representative Blake Farenthold from Corpus Christi.
They pushed the highway bill for more infrastructure projects in South Texas. Cuellar also said South Texas could become the new Middle East, with the oil fracking and shale oil possibilities down here.
In addition, Cuellar is a big supporter of bringing more border patrol agents to the Valley.
With the hundreds of new agents being moved down here, he says it's about time.
"I've been pushing for many years, and I've told this to (Border Patrol) Chief (Michael) Fisher and he's finally listening," Cuellar said. "That they're now moving some of the officers down here to the border and we should've done this a long time ago."
