Black History Month was celebrated at a Brownsville port of entry by U.S. Customs and Border Protection officer with keynote speaker George McShan from the Harlingen I.S.D..
This years theme for 2010 is "The History of Black Economic Empowerment". This year's theme spotlights the 140 year struggel of African American's to economic self sufficiency as a community. Historical barriers have prevented African Americans from entering the economic mainstream, but black purchasing power represents over $200 billion dollars a year in the economy.
