Just two weeks ago close to five pounds of cocaine washed ashore on South Padre Island. Tuesday another winter Texan found a suspicious package with similar wrapping.
Police say the package may have contained cocaine at one time but they suspect it was dissolved in the water. Captain Art Wilson usually camps near Beach Access 5. Tuesday he was looking at the Gulf of Mexico when law enforcement drove by.
It was the Cameron County parks Police, along with ICE agents, and the Coast Guard responding to a suspicious package found 4 miles north of beach Access 5. It was found by a Winter Texan looking for shells and they alerted police.
The Cameron County parks police chief says the package that was found tuesday, was similar to the wrapping where two kilos of cocaine were found just two weeks ago.
Wilson who has witnessed the last cocaine finding says it's something that can be expected on the Island. The Cameron County Parks Police say they are a 24-7 operation and will be on the lookout for anything suspicious floating ashore.
