MISSION, TX (KVEO NEWSCENTER 23) — Three men are behind bars for what investigators say is an ongoing drug operation.
The suspects were arrested at a residence on the 2000 block of East 20th Street in Mission yesterday afternoon.
HIDTA task force agents had been investigating the men and caught them in the act of unloading several bundles of marijuana from a pick up truck.
Police arrested Avelino Zetina, 41, Juan Gilberto Garza Jr., 22, and Rogelio Acosta, 24 on possession of marijuana and engaging in criminal activity charges.
Garza has an arrest warrant out of Nueces County for charges of possession of marijuana and possession of a controlled substance. He will face charges in Corpus Christi after serving time here in Hidalgo County.
Investigators say there is a possibility that these men are involved in a large organized crime ring since they've been running this operation for a long time.
"They are being charged with being engaged in organized criminal activity," said Sgt. Manny Casas. "There's a very good chance they are together with something bigger than who they are. There's a very good chance that there's more to it than what we see right now."
Investigators discovered more than 400 pounds of marijuana inside the home during the arrest of the three men.
All three suspects each have a bond set at $300,000 total for both charges.
