A self-defense class teaches women how to feel confident when walking alone at night. It gives you the confidence that one may need in any situation. Yes, it's a good workout but it's a great way for anyone to take on a potential attacker.
Instructor, Raul Sosa, has been teaching the class for 15 years and says anyone who enrolls will leave with the knowledge and confidence to take on anyone, no matter the size. Take a look at me for example. I’m 5’3 taking on a 17-year-old who's a few inches taller than me.
“It’s very helpful. It teaches you joint manipulation so a smaller person takes down a bigger person if they have to without having to be in a struggle for a very long time. It’s quick and effective, an element of surprise.”
But these are just a few moves you can learn. Since taking the class, Darby Carbajal says she feels more secure.
“Makes me feel safer. I can defend myself and not depend on someone. I can go to the car alone and not worry.”
This self defense class is very hands-on and learning these protective moves is not as hard as is seems. With practice and dedication, you can even take a 6’5 person like the instructor down with ease.
