EDINBURG, TX (KVEO NEWSCENTER 23) — It's official--Eddie Guerra is the interim sheriff of Hidalgo County after being formally sworn into office this afternoon.
Edinburg City Hall reached maximum capacity as law enforcement and government officials from across the county gathered for the ceremony.
Eddie Guerra took an oath of office as sheriff with his wife and son alongside him. Before taking the sheriff job, Guerra served as constable for Precinct 4.
Judge Ramon Garcia congratulated Guerra on his new role for Hidalgo County and reminded him of his responsibility as leader of the largest law enforcement agency in the county.
Guerra will oversee approximately 800 people and will be responsible for about $61 million in tax payers' money as sheriff of Hidalgo County.
