BROWNSVILLE, TEXAS (KVEO NEWSCENTER 23) — The enrollment deadline for the Affordable Care Act is quickly approaching. And because all Americans are now required by law to have healthcare coverage, you must be enrolled by the 31st.
Even though plenty of people have already signed up for the Affordable Care Act without any help, Valley Baptist Medical Center is doing their part to get people educated and enrolled.
"Basically we help educate the general population and what the Affordable Care Act is and then we help them walk through the process in a step-by-step approach to help them make the right decision in which health insurance plan would fit their needs," said Valley Baptist Medical Center healthcare administrative resident Richard Perez.
Valley Baptist also has a program called "Path to Help", which is designed to be a guide to help those who are uninsured find an appropriate plan.
"It's a, basically, a hotline," said Perez. "They can call and obtain all the information they need with regards to the Affordable Care Act. It is very important that we get the Rio Grande Valley to enroll in the Affordable Health Care because it is the law."
You can also use Path to Health to schedule registration appointments to actually sign up.
And while hospital officials haven't been able to put an official number on the number of enrollees, they do expect many more Valley residents to sign up before Monday.
"We're expecting to obtain a lot of, have a lot of people enroll in healthcare between now and March 31," said Perez. "We're seeing a flood of, a number of people enrolling now within our Valley Baptist Healthcare System as well."
