EDINBURG, TX (KVEO NEWSCENTER 23) — Police in Edinburg are trying to identify a body found in an abandoned gas station.
The age of the body and how long it's been in there has not been determined. A passerby found it around noon on Tuesday because of the noticeable smell. Investigators say the body was in a later stage of decomposition.
The Edinburg Police is treating the case as a homicide until the autopsy results come in. Foul play has not been ruled out.
It's been years since the former gas station and burger joint had any paid occupants.
"We are slowly receiving information that there are a couple of homeless men that do congregate in this area and have been seen entering and exiting from this building," Lt. Oscar Treviño of the Edinburg Police Department said. "So there is that possibility of maybe a homeless person."
There was no identification with the body and police wouldn't say if there were any belongings.
