Los Fresnos, TX (KVEO NEWSCENTER 23) — A extremely rare kitten is found at a wildlife refuge in the Rio Grande Valley. A young ocelot is roaming around the Laguna Atascosa National Wildlife Preserve in Los Fresnos area.
Biologists first found the young feline wandering in front of one of their cameras on the preserve last month. They think that it might be a female, less than 6 months old. Scientists estimate there are only about 50 ocelots in the wild in the United States right now.
The preserve has already blocked off Bayside Drive to vehicle traffic, in an effort to protect the baby ocelot and other ocelots that are in that area.
the preserve is also planning to have a naming contest for the ocelot cub, on their facebook site.
