The McAllen police department releases their 2009 uniform crime reporting analysis, which compares crime statistics to the previous year.
Data shows that on average of all reported crimes, violent crimes decreased by 5.66%, but property crimes increased by 1.85%. Theft offenses, such as shoplifting, theft of auto parts and bicycles, arrest increased by nearly 18% with shoplifting at 127%.
