Bowie, TX — For the first time, we are seeing dramatic video of the shooting and police chase that concluded with the death of an accused killer. This comes as a woman is sentenced to 27 months in prison for giving a gun to a parolee who went on a deadly shooting spree. Sara Morris got reaction to the sentencing in Denver and we should warn you, some viewers may find this video to be disturbing.
Dash cam video shows how Evan Ebel used the gun Stevie Vigil gave him to shoot Texas deputy James Boyd in the chest and head, leaving him on the side of the road.
We've learned this video runs for several minutes before someone stops to help.
Boyd says he remembers the pain and believes Vigil is partly to blame, "She gave a convicted felon with heinous crimes a gun in my personal opinion and from what I've learned in law enforcement she should be held just as accountable."
Federal prosecutors asked Vigil be given seven years for what they said was her role in the deaths of corrections chief Tom Clements and father of three Nathan Leon, but instead she was sentenced to just 27 months, the maximum that sentencing guidelines allow.
John Leon, Nathan Leon's Father, "We are obviously disappointed because my son was murdered and it doesn't seem like the judge had the right judgment in mind."
Deputy Boyd still has parts of a bullet lodged in his skull and permanent hearing loss, "It's got a lasting impact is the fact that I have to wear this hearing aid, which is something I should not have had to wear for 40-years or the rest of my life."
Prosecutors released new pictures of evidence they presented in Vigil's trail including Leon's pizza uniform and blood found inside the trunk of Ebel's car.
But, Vigil's attorneys say she was manipulated by Ebel, Daniel Smith, "We were asking to be sentenced on the crime that Miss Vigil committed and not on the crimes that Mr Ebel committed and that's what the court ruled."
This murderous crime spree came to a crashing end when Ebel plowed his car head-on into a semi-truck, he died in a shootout moments later with police.
