EDINBURG, TX (KVEO NEWSCENTER 23) — Thousands of kids know more about wildlife and ecology after attending the Coastal Expo at the Edinburg Scenic Wetlands.
The two-day event allowed the Valley's grade-school children to get to know nature better. They were able to touch wild creatures, take part in science experiments and learn from professionals in the field.
"We expose them to a lot of the science content that they're actually teaching in the science classroom, the science teachers," said Sam Houston elementary teacher Lorie Moreno. "They get hands on, which they enjoy touching, for example, right now they're touching the sea urchins and they enjoy it. They're having a lot of fun just interacting with nature."
Many schools had several classes at the expo. Sam Houston had eight classes attend from the fourth and fifth grades.
