EDINBURG, TX (KVEO NEWSCENTER 23) — A toddler is safe and the parents are in jail after the baby was found in the middle of the street Wednesday morning.
A driver on Mon Mack Road in Edinburg discovered the one-and-a half year old in front of BL Garza Elementary school.
Also of note, it was freezing at the time and the toddler only had pajamas on.
School security was alerted and police were called in to investigate.
"They did come upon an apartment across the street from the school, which apparently had the front door open, the officers observed there was a male individual passed out asleep on the couch," Edinburg Police's Oscar Treviño said of his colleagues. "They also made contact with the child's mother, who also had been asleep in an adjacent room."
The parents are facing child endangerment charges, while the toddler and a two-year-old sibling are staying with grandparents.
