Texas Governor Rick Perry was in the Valley on Tuesday at UTPA to announce several grants for the university.
The biggest one was a $3.25 million dollar grant which is part of the Texas Emerging Technology Fund which will help the university hire top notch researchers. Those researchers will oversee and establish a world class advanced manufacturing center that will bring jobs to the Valley. A second grant was given to Photon-8 which will go toward producing oil from algae. Governor Perry says he is very pleased about the grants going toward the university.
