MCALLEN, TX (KVEO NEWSCENTER 23) — A Major League Baseball All-Star came to the Rio Grande Valley on Monday as part of the Houston Astros Caravan.
Second baseman Jose Altuve read a story of Jackie Robinson to the students of Castaneda Elementary in McAllen.
He also took questions about his Venezuelan upbringing and how he got into the sport of baseball.
This is his fourth year of the Astros Caravan and he still says he's nervous about reading in front of children.
"I feel really happy, to just spend the time with the kids, the fans," Altuve said. "We've been visiting different places in Texas and the fans are great I feel really great when I see somebody wearing the Astros jersey, that made my day."
Monday was the second day of the Caravan in the Valley. It visited Brownsville on Sunday.
