MISSION, TX (KVEO NEWSCENTER 23) — The Homeland Security Secretary is making his first trip to the Rio Grande Valley this week.
Jeh Johnson met with several local leaders including Congressman Henry Cuellar on Tuesday.
The meeting included discussions on improving international bridges and roadway and other issues affecting the border.
There was also a recent announcement of additional funding for Customs and Border Protection.
"There's always been an emphasis on Border Patrol. For the first time, there's an emphasis on the men and women in blue, which is customs," Cuellar said. "We have 2,000 new CPB officers. The first 700 to be hired this year."
