MISSION, TX (KVEO NEWSCENTER 23) — A Valley native is headed to Hollywood after receiving a golden ticket from 'American Idol' judges to move forward to the next round.
Viviana Villalon is a 20-year-old student at UTPA who recently auditioned for the nationwide singing competition. Villalon sang a cover of "Love Somebody" by Maroon 5 while playing the ukulele in front of the three 'American Idol' judges in Austin, TX.
After her performance, the lifelong Valley resident received a "yes" from all three judges--Jennifer Lopez, Keith Urban, and Harry Connick Jr.--to advance to Hollywood.
"It was incredible, it was surreal," said Villalon. "I couldn't believe that my dream was coming true. I sang for J-Lo! Like who gets to do that? That was amazing! It truly was a humbling experience knowing hey, I'm from Mission, Texas and I'm singing for these celebrity judges right now."
Villalon is grateful for the support of the Valley and says she is honored to represent this region on the show.
