BROWNSVILLE, TX (KVEO NEWSCENTER 23) — A stash house is discovered right in the middle of a neighborhood, something Brownsville police say is somewhat rare, Na'Tassia Finley has more on the raid and the arrest of the man overseeing the house.
Over a ton of marijuana has been seized from what authorities are calling a stash house, JJ Trevino Brownsville PD, "It would appear someone was just staying there temporarily, it was not a livable home."
The man, allegedly in charge of the bundles, Miguel Estrada, 38, has been arrested on possession of marijuana charges. The arrest came after a Crime Stoppers tip on Tuesday lead police to the home and during their surveillance of the home they made contact with Estrada who consented to a search of the home where police found over 2,600 lbs. of marijuana.
Police say it is rare that a stash house with such a large amount of marijuana be located in a city neighborhood. Usually stash houses are in the out skirts of the county in rural areas, JJ Trevino, "We don't get it at this level. I don't know that this is very common at the city level."
Neighbors in the area were surprised to learn of the raid and say they didn't really see Estrada out too often and he was new to the neighborhood for about a month.
