HIDALGO, TX (KVEO NEWSCENTER 23) — Tonight is the night that Monster Jam kicks off their wild weekend of events at the State Farm Arena.
This year, fans will notice something significantly different about the show.
"This is the first time there will ever be dirt inside this place," said Lupe Soza, driver of the El Toro Loco truck. "I've been coming here for over ten years and it's always been a concrete show, so here we are now. It's dirt for the first time."
And just by adding dirt to the mix, Soza says the show is now even more exciting.
"I guess the biggest element of a dirt show is the obstacles," he explained. "The obstacles all get bigger, dirt hills, cars on top of the dirt hills, so this is what we're used to running on."
Soza has been a monster truck driver for nearly three decades, but each night still brings a rush of adrenaline each time he takes the stage.
"I've been doing this stuff for like 28 years now and it just, every night and every event is always different and I still get the pre-race jitters. These arenas are very exciting to be at so yeah, come on out.
There are five different shows this weekend--one on Friday night, two on Saturday and two on Sunday. Tickets are still available through Ticketmaster or at the State Farm Arena.
