Foster Farms processing facility shutdown due to cockroach infestation. Claire Doan reports.
(KCRA) A Foster Farms chicken processing plant in Livingston, California was shut down Wednesday morning due to cockroaches.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture suspended operations at the plant, located just south of Modesto, because of the threat to public health.
Cockroaches were seen Wednesday on a sink across from a processing line, the USDA told media outlets, with "exposed product" nearby. One day earlier, the roaches were sitting on a plastic tub that came into contact with chicken, according to a suspension notice.
This plant was one of three at the center of a salmonella outbreak that sickened more than 400 people across the country several months ago.
