Edinburg, TX — U.S. Border Patrol agents in the Rio Grande Valley Sector seized more than $4.5 million worth of marijuana from Friday through Sunday.
The marijuana was confiscated in multiple seizures, the largest of which occurred near Rio Grande City on Sunday. That bust was made after agents received a report of a pickup truck that was possibly transporting narcotics. Agents spotted the vehicle north of Rio Grande City and noticed several bundles were being ejected from the vehicle. Agents secured the bundles of marijuana from the middle of the road and continued to look for the pickup. After a brief search, they found the vehicle abandoned on FM 2058 with nearly 1,400 pounds of marijuana inside.
Agents made another large seizure Sunday in Escobares after observing a group of smugglers who were loading a vehicle with marijuana near the Rio Grande. As the agents approached, the smugglers fled – abandoning the vehicle and more than 1,000 pounds of marijuana.
Additional, seizures brought the total amount of marijuana confiscated over the three-day span to more than 5,600 pounds.
