Police arrested two people accused of sexually exploiting a 16-year-old girl who police say was kidnapped from the state of Jalisco, México. San Juan investigators say the girl was held against her will for 2 months. In those months, she was sexually assaulted at least 6 times. Police Chief, Juan Gonzalez, says the Vargas family forced the 16-year-old girl to household labor, deprived her of food and shelter and was raped 6 times by 24-year-old, Benito Vargas, who smuggled her into this country.
After weeks of alleged abuse, the teen finally escaped and asked neighbors for help. They called the police department who raided the San Juan home and arrested Ofelia Vargas for not reporting a felony. 17-year-old, Belen Vargas, is also in police custody charged with assault. Police are still on the look-out for the 24-year-old who's wanted on 6 counts of aggravated assault of a child. Police say Benito Vargas was last seen in México.
Police say the victim remains at a shelter. As for the suspect, if anyone has information on his whereabouts, call San Juan Crime Stoppers at: 283-8477.
