MCALLEN, TX (KVEO NEWSCENTER 23) — If you're putting away Christmas decorations and need to get rid of the live tree you used this season, don't throw it in a dumpster.
The City of McAllen Recycling Center is asking that anyone who needs to get rid of a live tree recycle it. Even if you aren't a resident of McAllen, you are still invited to take your unwanted tree to their location at the corner of Nolana and Bentsen Rd.
"What we do is when you bring in the tree, we'll actually grind it," explained Chris Lash, Resources Manager for the City of McAllen Recycling Center. "Once we grind it, it'll form a really nice mulch, and that mulch actually does smell like Christmas trees, and so it's a great way to start off the new year by recycling."
Before you drop off your tree at the recycling center, make sure that all ornaments, Christmas lights, and the tree stand have been removed.
