Edinburg, TX — U.S. Border Patrol agents in the Rio Grande Valley Sector seized more than $3.7 million worth of marijuana from Friday through Monday.
The marijuana was confiscated in multiple seizures, the largest of which occurred near Weslaco on Saturday. Agents were working near the Rio Grande when they saw a minivan driving away from the area at a high rate of speed. The driver lost control and rolled the vehicle. Agents arrived at the scene and called an ambulance for the driver, who suffered minor injuries. Inside the van agents found more than 1,100 pounds of marijuana.
Agents made another large seizure Friday in Garceno after spotting a marijuana-laden pickup truck leaving the river area. Additional agents responded and found the truck abandoned with more than 1,000 pounds of marijuana inside.
Additional, seizures brought the total amount of marijuana confiscated over the four-day span to more than 4,600 pounds.
