McAllen, TEXAS (KVEO NEWSCENTER 23) — A Rio Grande Valley family is happy and healthy following a kidney transplant.
We brought you the story of the Olivares family this summer. Rosa is the matriarch, and her lifestyle wreaked havoc on her kidneys.
Her son Felipe stepped up to offer his. Nearly seven months later, they're both doing well. And her new healthy habits are instilled in the youngest ones in the family.
"Everytime it's 8pm, 'grandma your meds, grandma your meds.' So he's on that," Felipe says about his nephew. "He has an alarm clock, so when it rings, he knows she needs to take her meds. He tells her, ' grandma, your meds are coming up, you need to take them.'"
Both Felipe and Rosa spoke at a reunion today for patients of the South Texas Health System.
