HIDALGO COUNTY, TX (KVEO NEWSCENTER 23) — Four men are facing aggravated robbery charges for their alleged involvement in a home invasion this weekend.
Ramon Garza, Jorge Antonio Ramirez, Jose Garcia, and Rolando Saldana were arraigned this afternoon and given bonds set at more than half a million dollars each.
The suspects were also charged with evading arrest. The bond for this is $5,000, but the driver of the vehicle used to evade police--Jorge Antonio Garcia--was given a $25,000 bond in addition to the $500,000 for aggravated robbery.
Deputies say the four men entered a mobile home in rural Weslaco with a gun and tried to steal at least 500 pounds of marijuana from the location.
Judge Homer Jasso says crime involving drugs is a growing issue in Hidalgo County and is sparking concern for the safety of people.
"What worries me is the people living inside, and there's some children inside those houses you know, and that's what really worries me. And part of that is the reason I set the bond so high. And then they're illegals also, they're gonna fly to Mexico and we'll never see them again."
Three of the four male suspects are illegal citizens--Jorge Antonio Ramirez is reportedly the only documented citizen of the group.
