Edinburg, TX — On December 6, 2013 at approximately 7:30a.m, HCSO Detention Officer Bertha Garza, 40 yrs old, was killed as a result of a traffic accident.
Detention Officer Garza was enroute to work when a northbound vehicle on Terry Road disregarded a stop sign and struck D.O Garza’s vehicle that was westbound on Rodgers Road. D.O Garza was pronounced dead at 11:57a.m. by medical personnel at Edinburg Regional Hospital. DPS is investigating the collision. The driver of the other vehicle, sustained a leg injury and was transported to Edinburg Regional Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.
Sheriff Trevino states, “I wish to extend my deepest condolences to the family of D.O Bertha Garza on her passing an as well to all the 800 plus members of our Sheriff’s Office. We consider our Sheriff’s Office and extended family unit and we all have been impacted by the tragic death of D.O Bertha Garza. D.O Garza spent 13 years as a member of our family and was held in high regard by all of her supervisors and peers. D.O Bertha Garza will be deeply missed.”
