MCALLEN, TX (KVEO NEWSCENTER 23) — Al Ragusin could soon be known simply as the Horse Whisperer.
That's if he takes up an offer to make his life a reality show.
"They said what do you think of that, Horse Whisperer?" Ragusin said. "I said you want to know the truth? I don't like it. And she said why? And I said because I never whisper."
Ragusin says he's the only person in the world who can make a horse dance to the beat of music.
He's been on national television, been part of the Rose Parade and does live shows around the country.
He says it takes four to five years to train a horse to dance to music.
And there's not even a guarantee it'll work, that's why nobody else has done it.
"Because nobody's that stupid," Ragusin said when asked why it hasn't been mimicked. "Why would you dedicate your life to making a horse do something that is unnatural for him to do?"
Ragusin has been in show business for decades. So he's a natural for a reality show, right? Not so fast. The 75 year old says he lives a dull life and is still unsure he even wants to do it. He wants all his criteria met; including staying right here in the Valley.
"I didn't want to do it... I've done this before," he said. "And I know how hard and grueling it is. And I felt that at this time in my life I didn't know if I wanted to do that."
The Port O'Connor native says most of what he would make from the potential reality show is earmarked for St. Jude's Children's hospital.
Ragusin says his dad died of cancer.
"I don't have any use for the money," Ragusin said. "I live the way I want to live, I was born a country boy, I want to die a country boy."
