EDINBURG, TX (KVEO NEWSCENTER 23) — World AIDS Day started 25 years ago to bring awareness to the deadly disease.
At the University of Texas-Pan American and at South Texas College Mid Valley on Monday, free tests were offered by the Valley AIDS Council. Resulta can come back in about a minute.
The tests are offered for free on a monthly basis year-round.
"A lot of our students don't qualify for a lot of our services. So if they are sexually active this is a step towards better health for themselves," said UTPA Health Educator Eddie Quintanilla. "Send the message out there that it's okay to get tested. That it's okay to learn more about HIV and AIDS."
The makeup company MAC was also on hand to give out free makeovers. The proceeds from a line of its makeup goes toward fighting AIDS.
