MCALLEN, TX — The City of McAllen and McAllen Crime Stoppers are hosting their annual Turkey Give Away on Wednesday, November 27, 2013 at 9:00 a.m. at the McAllen Police Department, 1601 N. Bicentennial Blvd. You are invited to join us.
“On behalf of the City Commission and the citizens of McAllen, we want every family to enjoy the Thanksgiving holiday with their loved ones and may the holiday spirit prevail in all of our homes throughout the City,” said Mayor Jim Darling, City of McAllen.
The McAllen Crime Stoppers Board raised funds from the community for this special event to purchase Thanksgiving turkey dinners for about 130 families with modest means.
“Crime Stoppers is a valued tool for the police department but, during the holidays, it’s about showing our thanks to our community. Crime Stoppers is a citizen group that volunteers to raise funds to pay citizens for information or TIPS anonymously,” said Chief Victor Rodriguez. “We are very proud to be part of this and very glad we have the leadership of the Crime Stoppers Board to get this done.”
City Commissioners, Police Officers and volunteers will distribute turkey meals to dozens of families. The families are chosen by police officers who work with families throughout the year and the school district that provides names to the organization.
“We would like to thank our community for helping us provide a turkey dinner for families. We have learned throughout the year, most of these families would not enjoy a traditional meal if crime stoppers didn’t raise funds,” said Blanca Cardenas. She added, “The McAllen Crime Stoppers Turkey Give Away is successful because families who pick up their turkeys are grateful. This is how we measure success.”
McAllen Crime Stoppers wants to thank the continued support of the City of McAllen. You can watch live coverage on MCN 17.12 or website mcallen.net
