BROWNSVILLE, TX (KVEO NEWSCENTER 23) — More than 85 international UTB students from countries like Mexico, Canada and Austria had the opportunity to celebrate Thanksgiving a few days early on campus.
Caterers prepared a traditional Thanksgiving feast to let the international students experience what will happen in so many American homes this Thursday.
Students expressed their gratitude for the feast, especially because most of them won't be around their families for the holiday season like Michael Deimel, "I don't have Thanksgiving at home because we don't celebrate Thanksgiving. There's this thing like Thanksgiving, an event, like a holiday and we are thankful for getting food and shelter, but the American way of celebrating it is just completely different."
Zach Armstrong stated, "It's nice to be here because I'm not able to go home for my own Thanksgiving so it's nice to have this, so that we have some place to go and everybody can be together. It's kind of like own little family away from home so it's really nice."
