San Juan Police have arrested nearly 60 suspected gang members in just a few months. Tonight, they're on the hunt for yet another suspected gang member. Martin Rios Jr., suspected to be a member of the Tri City Bombers gang is wanted for evading arrest after a police pursuit Thursday night.
Police say an officer tried to pull Rios over after running a stop sign on Buffalo and Athol Streets but the suspect drove off. Rios led police on a short pursuit that ended at his home 512 Hackberry Street. After stopping the vehicle, police say Rios and two other men jumped out, one carrying a sub-machine gun. After a search of the vehicle, authorities found several ounces of marijuana and a black SKS-7 Rifle. Police Chief, Juan Gonzalez, began the Special Investigations Unit in February, a unit that specifically targets gang members in the San Juan area.
The police department has arrested over 58 suspected gang members, some who were wanted for evading arrest, criminal trespassing, aggravated assault, murder, among other things.
“We need to focus specifically on the type of crime they're involved in which is violent crime.”
Chief Gonzalez says these men are involved in the many drive-bys and robberies that happen in the Pharr, San Juan and Alamo area. They’re usually armed when committing these crimes, that's why authorities are stepping up their efforts to put them behind bars.
If you have any information on Rios, please call San Juan Crime Stoppers at: (956) 283-8477.
