BROWNSVILLE, TEXAS (KVEO NEWSCENTER 23) — The Good Neighbor Settlement House is located on East Tyler near downtown Brownsville.
Executive Director Leo Rosales says they provide several meals to more than a hundred people daily, that adds up to more 90,000 meals a year.
"We provide 3 meals for the homeless, needy, and the poor. We also provide showers, we give them all personal hygiene products that they need, we give them free clothing, and a change of clothing."said Rosales.
Rosales says this year they did not receive funding from a city grant they got in the past. Last year that counted to $83,000.
He says without that money this year he has been forced to make some changes.
"I had to let go a staff member, everybody is part time because I can't afford to pay them, my data entry clerk who was sending data to the state cannot work full-time so I don't know if that data is going to be put in or not."
Rosales says they rely on funding from organizations including the United Methodist Woman of New York, donations, and volunteers to stay afloat.
He says he is hoping they can get more funding in future so the Good neighbor Settlement House can continue to provide these much needed services to the community.
