MISSION, TX (KVEO NEWSCENTER 23) — A Planned Parenthood clinic in Mission is reopening after being closed two years ago.
The clinic on Conway Avenue was closed after it lost funding. A federal grant allowed it to be reopened today. Officials say the clinic canserve about half the patients that it did before closing. Planned Parenthood owns the building. And say it never had any intention of selling it.
"It will be open for the next three years, because this grant renewal will come up in three years. And we hope it will continue forever," said Hidalgo County Planned Parenthood CEO Patricio Gonzalez. "And put women's health above politics because that's what was happening before."
Abortion are not performed at the Mission clinic. It is the first of 50 Planned Parenthood clinics to be reopened after the funding was cut.
