HARLINGEN, TEXAS (KVEO NEWS CENTER 23) — Volunteers of the American Red Cross in Harlingen are doing their part to help victims devastated by the typhoon in the Philippines.
With a reported death toll of more than 4000 and over 600,000 people displaced, victims in the Philippines are desperate for help.
Rio Grande Valley citizens have already been pouring into the American Red Cross South Texas Chapter to give monetary donations to those affected in the Philippines. So far, the American Red Cross has donated about $6 million in aid to this cause.
"We've had a few people come in here, requesting, or you know, allocating some money or donations, monetary donations that are going in," said American Red Cross volunteer Santana Garcia. "The Red Cross is asking everybody if you can donate about ten dollars to begin with that would be a big help because every little bit adds up at the end of the program."
