RIO GRANDE VALLEY, TX (KVEO NEWSCENTER 23) — Extra precaution must be taken when a driver comes across hazardous obstacles on the roadway, Na'tassia Finley speaks with experts about how to navigate around them in this segment of Driver's Aggravation Report.
In this segment of Driver's Aggravation Report, our topic has to do with with, what are you supposed to do when you find debris out on the roadway?
It could be anything from a dead animal to something that's blown out of someone's trunk or maybe even just plywood in the middle of the road, we asked our experts.
Driving Instructor Amado Olivarez stated, "If it's something that you feel as a driver, if you're a conscientious driver, you're going to call the local city. Even if you are on the Expressway and if I'm not mistaken, it does belong to the state, but the city also has their fair share of also doing something about it if it's going to cause a collision or severe injury to someone in the city."
DPS Trooper Maria Hernandez stated, "If you're on the Expressway and you come across debris and you know it's a danger not only to you, but to the rest of the motorists, then you mail call it in. Give the exact location of where the debris is, local authorities or DPS will make contact with TxDOT so that they may go out there to the scene and clear the roadway."
