SAN BENITO, TX (KVEO NEWSCENTER 23) — The trial began for San Benito Mayor Joe Hernandez who is accused of making a terroristic threat against a former city commissioner.
In their opening remarks, the prosecution stated that Mayor Joe Hernandez threatened a former city commissioner back in October 2012.
The mayor was allegedly outside the home of the former commissioner taking pictures of his home when the former commissioner approached the mayor's vehicle and the mayor saying, "Get rid of him and burn him out."
Hernandez's defense team stated the accusations are not true and that it's a political witch hunt against the mayor.
Prosecutors plan to call four witnesses including two police officers and the alleged victim.
