ARLINGTON, TX — Arlington police are on the scene of an active shooting at an apartment complex.
Several residents at the Silverwood Apartments in the 1100 block of Silverwood called 9-1-1 early Monday morning reporting gunfire.
When police arrived on the scene, they saw a victim lying near a car in the parking lot. Police have not been able to reach the area of the victim as they are concerned about a possibly armed suspect or suspects in the area.
Arlington police have not confirmed how many total victims have been injured in the incident.
Police believe one or more armed suspects may be hiding nearby the apartments. Police are calling the incident an active shooting at this time.
Arlington police have requested assistance from the Grand Prarie SWAT units. Law enforcement personnel have surrounded the complex and are attempting to negotiate with the suspect.
Some residents were evacuated by Arlington police, but Arlington ISD said some of the residents inside the building were school-aged children.
Avenue J is closed between SH-360 and Corporate Drive for the active shooter call, according to NBC5's Keaton Fox, who is on scene.
Resident Treg Hill told NBC 5 he heard four gunshots from the complex initially but has heard additional shots fired at different intervals as police have arrived on scene. Hill lives in the Oak Forest Apartment next door to the Silverwood Apartments.
Hill said officers with automatic weapons arrived around 6:45 a.m. and has heard officers using a bullhorn to attempt to communicate with the suspected shooter.
