WESLACO, TX (KVEO NEWSCENTER 23) — On October 19, 2013 at 8:31p.m, Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office Deputies were dispatched to 6700 North Mile 3 ½ W., in rural Weslaco, Texas in reference to a report of shots fired and a man down.
Deputies arrived at location at 8:33p.m and made contact with the reporting witnesses, who were waiting for deputies on the roadway at the entrance to the property.
Witnesses stated to deputies that the suspect had shot several people and was still somewhere on the property armed with a riffle. Deputies then entered the property and began to search for the suspect and possible victims. Deputies made contact with a male subject walking along the driveway and who had blood on his hands. The subject was detained. Deputies cleared the property and in the process located two male subjects with apparent gunshot wounds. One subject, was lying on the ground with a gunshot wound to his left arm and left upper chest. The second subject, was also lying on the ground with a gunshot wound to his abdomen. Deputies observed two semi- automatic .22 caliber rifles on the ground.
Both victims were transported to Knapp Medical Center in Weslaco, Texas. Both victims underwent surgery and are listed in critical condition.
The suspect in this case will be arraigned today, October 21,2 2013 before J.P Bobby Contreras at 2:00p.m. at the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office Detention Facility. The suspect will be charged with 2 counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
Both victims are expected to recover. The shooting stemmed from an argument between all participants and the heavy use of alcohol.
