SAN ANTONIO, TX (KVEO NEWSCENTER 23) — The Alamo, Texas's symbol of liberty and independence, was the focus of a rally on Saturday calling for gun rights.
Hundreds of people carrying rifles and shotguns rallied outside the Alamo in opposition to an ordinance in San Antonio that limits the carrying of firearms, but the rally has drawn attention for another reason.
Historically, demonstrations like this have not been permitted at the Alamo because it's considered hallowed ground, but the Texas General Land Office gave permission.
The Land Commissioner, Jerry Patterson, says he believes those who died fighting at the Alamo would have supported the rally.
Patterson us also running for Lieutenant Governor in Texas.
