BROWNSVILLE, TX (KVEO NEWSCENTER 23) — U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Gateway International Bridge this week intercepted methamphetamine valued at approximately $193,500 hidden within a 2010 Dodge Journey.
On Thursday, October 17, 2013 at the Gateway International Bridge CBP officers came in contact with a black 2010 Dodge Journey being driven by a 23-year-old male citizen of Mexico who resides in Matamoros, Tamaulipas, Mexico. A primary CBP officer referred the Dodge and its occupant for a secondary examination. In secondary CBP officers discovered four packages hidden within the vehicle. CBP officers removed the four packages containing approximately 5.86 kilograms (12.9 pounds) of alleged methamphetamine from the Dodge Journey.
The alleged methamphetamine from this seizure has an estimated street value of approximately $193,500. CBP officers turned the driver over to U.S. Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) special agents for further investigation. CBP officers seized the narcotics and the vehicle.
