Catalina Island — Imagine going on a leisurely snorkel and then seeing this! This rare 18-foot Oarfish was spotted just off Catalina Island in Southern California.
It was spotted by a Catalina Island Marine Institute instructor who approached the snake-like fish very cautiously before she realized it was dead.
It took 15 adults to move it to shore, it's extremely rare to find an Oarfish, dead or alive.
That's because it's believed Oarfish mostly live in waters more than 3,000 feet deep, leaving them largely unstudied by scientists.
The giant Oarfish is the longest bony fish species and can reach lengths of 56 feet.
