Liberty County, TX — Two year-old twins are now in the custody of Child Protective Services after deputies say they found the girls naked and locked in a bedroom. The officers had come to the girls' Liberty County home to check on their mother who is awaiting trial on a human trafficking charge, Amanda Perez reports.
A deputy walked one of the girls out of a mobile home in Liberty County, where investigators say the children had been found locked inside of a room that had only a single blanket and smelled of waste.
The sight caught neighbors by surprise Amy Chamness, Neighbor, "As far as I knew she's a great mom. I don't really know what happened. I've been gone all day. I just show up at the road and there's cops everywhere."
The Liberty County Sheriff's Office says they were called to the scene by federal probation officers.
Those officers were there to check on the girl's mother, who is awaiting trial on a human trafficking charge.
The woman wasn't home, but her sister, identified as Amy Castillo, was there.
The officers told sheriff's office they became suspicious when they heard scratching coming from a bedroom and when the door was unlocked they discovered the two girls, in a room without food or toys.
The girls' aunt is facing charges of child abandonment and endangerment.
No word yet on whether the mother will be charged in this case.
