MCALLEN, TEXAS (KVEO NEWSCENTER 23) — An old building in McAllen has a new distinction.
A Texas historical marker was unveiled Friday in front of the old Paris Gum Factory building. The building at 609 Business 83 is now a laser tag business.
But in 1947, it was home to the Paris Gum Factory, whose owner Andrew Paris made bubble gum more afforable for children.
"The McAllen Historical Preservation Board, and they got on it. They didn't stop, they didn't give up. It took a while to get through to the owner, but once they made it happen, we knew it was going to happen," said John Paris, heir to the Paris Gum company. "The present space now, it looks like a place where kids would want to have fun. And I think that my dad would have thought that it was really cool."
