WESLACO, TX (KVEO NEWS CENTER 23) — The water conditions in Weslaco are cooking up more work for local businesses, especially restaurants in the area.
Ranch House Burgers is one of the many restaurants in Weslaco having to make due without clean water since Tuesday. Owner Michael Barrera says the cost of buying ice and bottled water is frustrating, and the hassle of boiling water slows down the fast pace they're used to.
"It 's made an impact on these couple of days," Barrera explained. "Had to bring in the cooks a little earlier to prep and boil the water and bring the ice bags in and stuff like that. Stocking up on ice and bottled water is pretty much what we've been doing. It just adds a lot more stress to the business and the the customers and to the employees."
Barerra also stated that the restaurant is stocked with extra supplies in case the boil advisory in the city lasts longer than originally intended.
According to the city manager, Weslaco could see clean water as soon as tonight pending the results of water tests to ensure sanitation.
