McAllen, TEXAS (KVEO NEWSCENTER 23) — Twelve men and one female are behind bars today after the Starr County HIDTA (High Intensity Drug Trafficking Areas) task force and the McAllen DEA located all suspects with arrest warrants yesterday.
52 people are listed in an indictment alleging drug conspiracy, but only 13 are currently identified. The suspects range in location from the Valley to Laredo as well as Houston.
The 13 people in custody were arrested yesterday at various residences in Starr County.
Those who appeared in court this afternoon are charged with drug trafficking, money laundering, as well as several other individual counts.
"We located some weapons, some currency in some of the houses, we ended up seizing vehicles," said Pedro Estrada, commander of the Starr County HIDTA. "Of course, we located all 12 individuals. All 12 individuals were taken into custody and were transported to the City of McAllen."
Estrada confirms that these suspects who were arrested on Tuesday are believed to be members of the Gulf Cartel.
"That 13th person, I believe he was found at one of the locations, I'm trying to find out who that person is. The people that were arrested here are believed to be associated with the Gulf Cartel."
The indictment lists 31 total counts for those arrested yesterday. Those 13 people each face a various number of charges and will attend a bond hearing expected to take place next Tuesday.
