LOS FRESNOS, TX (KVEO NEWS CENTER 23) — Technology is taking over and many teachers are making use of it in their classrooms, Na'Tassia Finley has more on Los Fresnos' BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) initiative.
From smartphones, to tablets and laptops, teachers and students in the Los Fresnos C.I.S.D. are embracing the use of technology in the classroom like Geography teacher Ashley Cox, "We find that the students are more willing to contribute to class if we are using methods they are already familiar with."
Different teachers use different methods to utilize those hand held technologies, "I like Tumblr, Twitter, Instgram because the students already have it on their phones, it's already accessible and fun for them, instead of, oh it's a tedious homework assignment I have to do. They're actually wanting to take part in what we are doing in the classroom."
Another tool, Edmodo, it's an app set up similar to Facebook and teachers are able to connect with students on daily work and assignments. Some teachers use QR codes to deliver information to their students, another bonus, "It makes it easier for us to go green and that I don't have to make copies and entire packets for the students. Now I can upload things into various websites that are user friendly especially for the students."
Cox says the transition to technology is also getting students college ready.
