AUSTIN, TX (TEXAS WORKFORC COMMISSION) — The newly formed Texas Rising Star (TRS) Workgroup will hold a public meeting in Austin on Wednesday, October 9 at 9 a.m. to begin reviewing the TRS child care provider certification program guidelines and formulating its recommendations to be presented to the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) next spring. The meeting will take place in the Legislative Conference Room, Capitol Extension, Room E2.002A.
TRS is a TWC certification program aimed at improving the quality of child care services provided in Texas. A Texas Rising Star Provider is a licensed or registered child care provider that voluntarily meets requirements exceeding the state's minimum licensing standards for child care facilities. The TRS program provides graduated levels of certification as providers meet progressively higher certification requirements.
Recent legislation enacted by the 83rd Texas Legislature established the TRS Workgroup for the purpose of reviewing the certification criteria and providing recommendations to TWC no later than May1, 2014. More information about the TRS Workgroup is available on the TWC website: www.texasworkforce.org/svcs/childcare/texas-rising-star-workgroup.html
Members of the public will have the opportunity to provide input to the TRS Workgroup at the October 9 public meeting. The TRS Workgroup is seeking comments on the minimum qualifications for TRS mentors and assessors, as well as on the TRS structure and other factors for the Workgroup to consider. In addition to the public meeting, comments may be emailed to: TRSWorkgroup376@twc.state.tx.us .
Persons with disabilities who plan to attend this meeting and who may need auxiliary aids, services or special accommodations should contact Kim Bergmann at 512-463-7903 at least two working days prior to the meeting so that appropriate arrangements can be made.
