HIDALGO COUNTY, TEXAS (KVEO NEWSCENTER 23) — What was initially believed to be a horrific kidnapping is now revealed as a hoax by one Valley husband.
On Tuesday night at approximately 10:37 p.m., Maria Hernandez reported that two masked gunmen had forcefully entered her home and kidnapped her husband, 34-year-old Rogelio Andaverde.
About a dozen deputies and a DPS helicopter were dispatched to help locate the victim and his kidnappers, but the search was abandoned after several hours due to the lack of a fresh trail or leads.
This morning, Andaverde returned to his house claiming that he was released by the kidnappers.
Further investigation by the Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office reveals that Andaverde set up his own kidnapping to spend time with his friends and party.
Andaverde is being charged with False Report to a police officer, a Class B misdemeanor, and was given a $5,000 bond.
