MCALLEN, TX (KVEO NEWSCENTER 23) — A centennial celebration is happening today for one upper Valley resident.
Birthday girl Lillie Mae Kent is ringing in her 100th birthday surrounded by family and friends. Lillie has lived in the valley since 1926 and continues to celebrate a life of laughter and well-being.
So what does she wish for after a century of good fortune?
"More life," says Lillie. "I'm gonna live to be...old. I don't like this young life!" she exclaims.
Young as she may be, Lillie is keeping her mouth shut when it comes to sharing her secret to 100 years of happiness.
"My secrets? Well I don't tell my secrets! I'm just living day to day and taking it as it comes."
Lillie and her husband, B.W. "Boots" Kent, met at a dance hall in Alamo in 1985. The two lovebirds got eloped just months later and have since spent the past 28 years happily married. Lillie's husband, who is 93-years-old, says he couldn't have found a better wife.
"Friendship...loving. I love her more than anything in the world," says Boots.
"I'm happy and we have a good time and we get along well and get plenty to eat, so what more would you want? We're happy and that's the bottom line. And the top line," Lillie jokes.
One of their favorite songs to dance to is "Does Fort Worth Ever Cross Your Mind." Each day, Lillie and Boots cherish a life of love together, and just like the song lyrics say, "good memories don't fade so easy."
